What is CranioSacral Therapy?
CranioSacral Therapy is a non-invasive therapy that can be used as an extension within massage therapy. It can be executed for all ages and focuses on the central nervous system, the cranial bones, spinal column and sacrum to relieve stress, nourish the brain by delivering its’ nutrients through the cerebral spinal fluid, stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, as well as recorrect any imbalances in the membranes and cranial sacral fluid within the brain and dural tube.
This gentle hands-on touch that uses no more then 5 grams of pressure was developed in the 1970s by Dr. John Upledger to help the body improve with in its’ natural state of homeostasis through releasing tissue within the cranial sacral system which consists of the central nervous system and all the surrounding membranes and fluid around the brain, spinal cord and sacrum. When looking at this system in depth, it’s like a hydraulic system that travels throughout the brain down the spinal cord to the sacrum and back up, moving cerebral spinal fluid up and down the body. On a side note, cranial sacral system can indirectly affect the health and function of the peripheral nervous system.
Through palpation of the restrictions and deviations of the cranial bones and membranous structures cranial sacral therapy can help relieve these distortions in the body with intention, patience and time relieving both acute and chronic symptoms of pain, inflammation, tension and stress. CranioSacral therapy has this unique gift to create within the body a place of deep relaxation.
CranioSacral Therapy can help with numerous ailments and has been known to help chronic pain, concussions, migraines, headaches, neck pain, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ), immune disorders, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, digestive issues, scoliosis, spinal cord injury, autism spectrum disorder, learning difficulties and more.
